COMMUNITY Social Responsibility We
are committed to youth and literacy in Guatemala. For every bag of coffee
sold we allocate funds to support socially responsible initiatives.
Café Flores is dedicated to enriching the lives of the underprivileged Currently, we sponsor the following organizations: Asociación Del Cinco manages a school for children ranging in ages 8 to 14. Families live in the city dump and parents are encouraged to allow their children to attend school, instead of working on the streets of the city. While attending school the children are given classes covering basic curriculum such as math, reading, and writing. The mission of the school is to instill the children with a sense of hope and purpose. Engaging in the formation of the young through integration in the school environment promotes excellence both academically and morally. While attending school, children are provided with a hot meal, and for some this is the only meal they will receive that day. When clothing is available they are also provided with new clothes and shoes. Casa de Fe, Asociación La Fe en Practica, Antigua
Since 1993, Faith In Practice's surgical teams have performed operations at Hermano Pedro Hospital and Orphanage in Antigua, Guatemala (Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro). During the 2004 mission season, 534 Faith In Practice volunteers from 20 teams performed 722 surgeries at Hermano Pedro Hospital and treated over 9,800 medical and 1,500 dental patients from areas throughout Guatemala. Responding to a need for a safe, clean place for patients to stay while awaiting surgery or convalescing, Faith in Practice raised the necessary funds and built Casa de Fe, a dormitory-style facility with more than eighty beds and a kitchen for preparing communal meals. Casa de Fe opened its doors in February 2003 to patients and their families, who travel great distances to receive medical attention at Hermano Pedro Hospital. Before Casa de Fe, these patients often had no place to stay before and after surgery. In 2004, needy individuals seeking medical care have utilized more than 9,900"bed nights" at the Casa de Fe. |
